Brevard County Zoo

While in Florida, we thought we'd take Kyra to a zoo for the first time. Of course, we didn't even consider, until we were walking up to the front gate, that we might encounter quite a bit of foliage at a zoo! Given Kyra's well documented fear of plants and trees, we were very concerned. But, after the first few tense minutes, she made it through...of course we had to give an exuberant greeting to EVERY plant we passed, "Hi palm tree!" I can only imagine the comments I'd make if I heard someone saying that. But, I'm just going to hope that Kyra is cute enough that others thought it was endearing.

One of Kyra's favourite books is "Giraffes Can't Dance." It's about Gerald, a giraffe who lives in Africa and every year at the jungle dance, all the animals laugh at him b/c he doesn't know how to dance. So, we told Kyra she'd get to see Gerald and all his family at the zoo. She was SO excited. Well, we got up to the observation platform where you can even feed the giraffes and it was of course COVERED in greenery. So, she started freaking out and everyone thought it was b/c of the giraffes...I hate having to explain this to people. :-) So, Mommy fed Gerald and Kyra and Daddy just watched...from far away...yeah, that's right, Daddy wasn't going near the beautiful giant creatures. Who knew their tongues were so long?! (sorry, no actual pictures of me feeding them)

We managed to coax Kyra to stand next to the fence...doesn't she look like she's having a GREAT time! LOL
