Pray for Ethan Raughley

Hello family/friends. I'm taking this post to ask you all to pray for my dear friend Rebecca's 5 year old son, Ethan. Ethan was recently diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (read about it here). He will be going into surgery today (6-16-08) to correct this problem. This is brain surgery folks, so seriously...pray!

Thanks!

Email from Rebecca this morning:

Hi friends,
We thought we would send out one last update before we head to the hospital in the morning. It may be a few days before we are able to write again, so don't worry if you don't hear from us right away.

We are scheduled for a 1pm surgery time, which is really good. If we had taken the early slot we would have had to leave home at 4am, yuk! The surgery itself should take around 4 hours. After surgery he will go to recovery for a while and then straight to ICU for at least a day, sometimes they are there for up to 3 days, just depending. After that we can expect to be in the hospital for anywhere from 3 days to a week. However, considering he is having brain surgery, I'll be just fine if they don't send him home to me after only 3 days. Yikes!

After speaking again with the doctors we have decided that what is best for Ethan is to plan no visitors while in ICU, and most likely while he is in the regular room as well. It is possible that he might be doing fine and could see a few folks, but we ask that you call the room first to see if that would work. We were told to expect that he will have a very bad headache and most likely being dealing with some nausea. They try to keep the rooms of Chiari patients dark and quiet.

Anyway, thank you all for all your prayers, your kind words, your encouragement, and help. We have been so thankful along this process for our friends and family. We are sooooo ready for this to be all over!

Rebecca
